Steph Curry on leading by example for his campers: “This year I started working out before they came in”

Early on in his career, Stephen Curry understood the level his workouts needed to reach for him to be great, and now he’s trying to pass on that exposure to the kids at his basketball camps. Additionally, the two-time MVP recently sat down with Gilbert Arenas on his podcast “Gil’s Arena” and discussed setting an example for the next generation.

“Kids come to my camp every year, and it’s my favorite part of the experience. This year I started working out before they came in so when they came in I was kind of full go. I think matching what they think is work with the visual of you know the level of the speed and intensity and focus that I do in my workouts. I had to learn that too. You have to be vulnerable like ‘all right I’m here I need to get here’ and how do I connect that. So when I do those workouts I know it’s influencing a little bit to teach the next generation on the level that they need to be at and just patience too,” Steph said.

Understanding the work
Curry’s workouts have become NBA folklore over the course of his career, especially the shooting portion which has defeated some of the most conditioned athletes in the league. As he references, it wasn’t always the case, however, as he had to learn what it meant to work hard following his college career at Davidson.

Similar to many aspiring athletes, even Stephen Curry, at 35 years old, believed his training sessions during his teenage years were of a high caliber. However, the transition to experiencing NBA-level workouts was a significant and challenging adjustment, demanding a heightened level of intensity, unwavering focus, and a deeper understanding of what it truly meant to put in the work at the professional level.

Passing the torch
To his credit, Curry has acknowledged it’s now his obligation to pass down what he has learned during his professional journey to the next generation of rising stars who view him as the benchmark of success.

It’s a tall order to replicate what the nine-time All-Star can do on the floor, but walking into an empty gym with Curry already in a full sweat will surely leave a lasting impression on any aspiring player.

It’s safe to say his dedication to his craft and going at game speed during workouts when there are no cameras present has paid off for the Warriors superstar, who is now sitting as the greatest shooter in league history and a four-time champion.
