Having only ever played for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA, it would be fair to say that Klay Thompson was an integral part of the team’s setup over the last decade. That he is now leaving the franchise, marks a moment that Steph Curry hoped he would never see.
Steph Curry in uncharted territory without Klay Thompson
If you’ve seen our previous report, then you know that Klay Thompson’s time in the Bay Area has come to an end after he apparently agreed to a three-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, though no official announcement has been made. To that end, the ‘Splash Brothers’ are no more and that’s something that Warriors talisman, Steph Curry, once said was something he never imagined he would have to face.
Indeed, speaking after the Warriors’ loss in the play-in tournament back in April brought the team’s season to an end, Curry admitted that he simply couldn’t picture himself without the teammates he had shared so many years with, more specifically, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
“I could never see myself not with those two guys,” Curry said at the time when speaking bout Green and Thompson. “I understand this league changes and there’s so many things that go into it, and we’re not going to play forever. But, we’ve experienced so much together, at the end of the day, I know they want to win, I know I want to win. That’s all I’m worried about.” Needless to say, the sad irony of the moment Curry and Co. now face relative to the words he posted a few months ago, is not lost on anyone. Consider for a moment that Curry who has been with the Warriors since 2009, would have seen the arrival of Thompson in 2011 following the Draft of that year. That’s quite a ride the two had, along with Green who completed the formidable triangle that saw the Warriors become a dynasty. As they say, nothing lasts forever.
