SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Steph Curry, the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP, has brought his Underrated Golf Tour to Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame.
Curry launched the Underrated Golf initiative two years ago with the goal of making the game more diverse. It focuses on providing equity, access, and opportunity to young golfers who otherwise might not have the resources to travel to national events during the summer or play at top courses.
Now in its third season, this event will feature 96 athletes competing in tournament-style events, all aiming to win the 2024 Curry Cup. From the tour, 24 of the best boys and girls will advance to compete for the Curry Cup at the Underrated Tour Championship.
On Monday, the athletes used the course for a practice round during which the 2023 champion shared insights on the experience and the course layout here in south bend.
“Actually, I came off a really good season and going into last year, my expectations were crazy high and I didn’t meet my expectations, so I wasn’t having a great year until I played in the Underrated and I won two events and then I won the Curry cup and it made my year obviously feel a lot better,” said Roison Scanlon. “And the experience was amazing. All the amazing people that we got to meet and got to hear from at all the panel sessions, and then meeting Mariah and Steph as well. It was unbelievable.”
The tour will be in South Bend through Wednesday.
