Steph Curry’s Influence Brought Lil Wayne and Skip Bayless Together as Friends

Controversial sports analyst Skip Bayless and rapper Lil Wayne did a joint interview with GQ Sports to speak about their unique friendship, revealing how Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry was indirectly responsible for them getting along to eventually build a strong bond.

Bayless, 71, explained how he first met Wayne 15 years ago while still working on ESPN’s “First Take.” The rapper was set to make a guest appearance on the show and the sports pundit quickly realized his potential.

Wayne, 41, was the only person who agreed with Bayless that Curry was a better prospect than Blake Griffin at that time.

“Two things came up in that meeting that really raised my eyebrows,” Bayless said. “I knew your work, but I didn’t know you, and I didn’t know your depth of sports knowledge! But we were coming up to Steph Curry’s draft, and I was a Steph Curry fan at Davidson. You shocked me, in a good way, because you said you would take Steph over Blake Griffin!

“Everybody at ESPN was head over heels with Blake Griffin because he could jump out of the gym. But [Griffin] stayed at Oklahoma for two years, and the good ones don’t stay for two years! He couldn’t make a shot from over two feet!”

Lil Wayne on ‘Undisputed’
Wayne has since made several guest appearances on FS1’s “Undisputed,” currently showing up every Friday.

The rapper also recorded the show’s previous theme song before creating a brand new one after Shannon Sharpe left the company.

Bayless and Wayne went on to recall how Curry outplayed Griffin during a Davidson-Oklahoma match.

They also provided more insight and details regarding how people react to their relationship, especially Bayless’ wife Ernestine, who is too good friends with Wayne.
