Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry set off some fans in the offseason when he previously declared himself the best point in NBA history.
Curry’s comments ignited a debate involving himself and Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson.
Johnson is widely considered by most to be the best point ever, though Curry has been making a case for himself as he continues to add to his impressive resume.
The Warriors star doesn’t lack any confidence and likely knew what he was saying when he made those comments, but regardless fans and analysts have been arguing about it since.
For example, Stephen A. Smith gave his take on the Curry-Johnson debate and acknowledged that the former has changed the game of basketball in a similar way to the latter via SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“People who can’t even shoot…find themselves on the court having to launch threes,” Smith said.”
Smith first begins by saying that Johnson revolutionized the fast break as a 6’9″ point guard with otherworldly passing vision.
However, Smith then talks about Curry’s influence on players and teams focusing heavily on the 3-point line and how that has shaped the modern NBA offense.
When watching games today, it’s clearly obvious that shooting from distance is a priority and for good reason as the value of scoring from there versus within the arc is more impactful.
Curry is a generational player that will go down as the greatest shooter in NBA history and there is a strong argument in his favor for best point guard of all time.
