Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is expected to return to the court against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury on March 7.
“That’s the plan, if everything goes well with practice today,” Curry said Friday. “… Working hard all week to try to get back as soon as possible.”
The Warriors are 1-3 since Curry rolled his right ankle during the fourth quarter of the game against the Chicago Bulls on March 7 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Golden State is 1-5 overall without Curry this season.
An MRI showed no signs of structural damage to Curry’s ankle, ESPN reported on March 8.
“We need him; it’s a big game tomorrow,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. “… I’m thrilled to get Steph back. We’ve got the whole team tomorrow. Hopefully, we can stay whole now for the remainder of the season.”
Golden State is one game back of the Lakers for the ninth seed in the Western Conference with 17 regular-season games left to play.
