Everybody who follows the NBA will tell you that fashion plays a key role in the entire sport’s mythos. Players wearing their favorite sneakers to play in the court has been a tradition for many generations. But NBA stars wearing fashionable fits before every single game is a slightly more recent tradition that has taken over the league by storm.
Before every single game, there are already cameras strategically placed in the tunnesl to see what every single NBA player is wearing when they arrive to the arena. One of the players that takes this more seriously is Warriors’ star Stephen Curry, who already has a planned strategy around the fit he will wear for the famous tunnel walk.
Talking to People, Curry said: “It’s not just the two hours that we’re on the court that people see us. It’s the four hours before the game when you get out of the car or off the bus, you’re walking into the arena, and there are cameras everywhere. It’s that moment of he’s arriving for work, he’s ready for business and what you have on is just demonstrating the energy and the type of time you’re on. It’s evolved dramatically over time. And I think you can see a full range of looks from every player over a while, whether it’s the casual sweatsuit to something designer to everywhere in between. So the who’s who, the guys who have taken some crazy chances out there and done some wild stuff. But for me, it’s just fun. You have all those eyeballs on you.”
When did Stephen Curry start prepping for thi tunnel walk?
Contrary to other players who enjoy fashion to unsuspected levels, Stephen Curry is slightly more modest with the fits he chooses. However, the planning around what he is wearing before every game is fairly recent. Steph revealed that he only started truly planning these pre-game tunnel walks during the Playoffs in 2022. That is when the Warriors won their most recent NBA championship. Also, he made sure that most of the stuff he wore was from either black designers or black-owned brands in order to support the culture.
