Stephen Curry sits amongst the goliaths of the modern NBA. The best bagman in the history of the league, Curry, has shown no signs of fatigue. His competitive spirit is just as bright and the chip on his shoulder continues to motivate him to defy the limits set on him. However, there is a second love that closely consumes him. A sport he makes time for even in his jam-packed schedule. It is none other than golf!
The Baby Face Assassin is an avid fan of the sport. He spends hours on the course when the time allows him to relish the opportunity or he plays in the simulator he has installed in his house. The four-time NBA champion has completely immersed himself in the sport. His admiration for striking the ball with the club has grown so strong that he is contemplating a pro-career post his NBA chronicles. Appearing on the cover of Golf Digest, Curry spoke about the potential of conversion.
For the most acclaimed shooter on the planet, he is fully determined to transition post-NBA retirement. “I don’t know what the path is. All I know is when I’m done with basketball, I’m going to reasonably invest as much into my golf as I can to see how good I can get, and where that puts me 14 years from now, we’ll see”.
Stephen Curry just had another wonderful regular season even though the Warriors failed to get past the Play-In tournament. The Davidson product averaged 26.4 points and 5 assists while shooting a blazing 40% from three. However, at 36 years old, his NBA days are numbered. His $215.3 million extension ends after the 2025-26 season.
It could be a matter of a few seasons or half a decade, but the NBA doesn’t have Curry for long. This is alluding to the fact that the Warriors’ cornerstone is amongst the most active players on the court, covering an average of 2.44 miles every game. The NBA, being a physically demanding sport, doesn’t give the luxury of a long career, unlike golf. It is common for professional golf players to play into their 50s. This allows Curry to improve his swings and game sense in his conquest to become a pro at the end of his NBA career.
Stephen Curry has a golf title under his belt already!
Last year, Steph Curry was among a large number of celebrities present at the iconic Lake Tahoe for the American Century Championship. He was one of the 19 active athletes present at the tournament. On the opening day, he ranked 1. However, the tide turned by the end of the tournament and Curry slipped to second.
On the final hole down 3, the Warriors icon needed a birdie and nothing less. As expected, the 2024 Clutch Player of The Year came up with the goods yet again. The 36-year-old soared in the air and widely ran toward his team to celebrate the historic moment. Curry became the first African American athlete to have achieved the accolade.
“I’ve always dreamt of a situation like this on an 18th green, in front of a crowd like that, to make the putt,” said the All-Star guard after securing the ACC championship. It’s safe to say, Curry has the drive and vigor to excel in golf. Having silverware is just reassurance for the 6’2″ guard who only needs the dimmest of sparks to ignite him.
