The Golden State Warriors may have failed to make it to the 2024 playoffs, but it hasn’t stopped Stephen Curry from making headlines.
This time around, Curry is going viral after he was honored with the Magic Johnson award by the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA).
According to the PBWA, the award “honors the NBA player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans.” It is named after Johnson because the NBA legend was always “engaging” and “gracious” to the media throughout his playing career.
The PBWA specifically noted that “Curry consistently fostered an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness with reporters who cover the NBA.”
Other finalists for the award include Bam Adebayo, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gobert and Tyrese Haliburton.
With the win, Stephen Curry joined Damian Lillard as the only players to win the honor two times. The Warriors star previously bagged it in 2016.
Warriors fans were naturally ecstatic to see Curry get the award, with many noting that it’s well deserved.
“And, this guy is the best, too! Congrats, Mr. Curry!” a fan commented. Another one said, “Congrats Steph!”
To be fair, it’s not a surprise to see Stephen Curry win the honor. After all, he has always been warm and respectful to the media, even amid the tough season that the Warriors had.
Considering Curry’s personality, it shouldn’t be a surprise if he wins more of the award in the future.
