AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – For the first time, NBA standout and MVP Steph Curry brought his “Underrated” golf tour to Aiken.
The tournament, held at Old Barnwell, is the kickoff to the U.S. portion of the tour.
It was created to boost diverse representation in junior golf.
Ninety-six golfers hit the course after the qualifying round.
Since Old Barnwell is a newer course, there wasn’t much advice to pass around.
“They’re going to play it hard,” said Blayne Brown.
“You just have to play smart golf, to be honest,” she said. “I just learned to kind of be patient because, you know, the golf courses are so hard. So yeah, they definitely give you a tough time. But as long as you play boring golf, I feel like you’ll be OK.”
Roman Solomon said: “It’s a really nice course. It’s new. You can definitely get after it if you’re playing smart, but if you’re doing something kind of dumb, you can definitely make a big number. Hopefully we stay away from the big numbers.”
The 12 best boys and 12 best girls at the end of the season will get to compete for the Curry Cup.
