Did anyone expect “The Beekeeper” to do as well at the box office as it’s doing? The mid-budget action film has earned more than $152 million worldwide. You have to assume a lot of that success rests on the shoulders of star Jason Statham, who has been solid at the box office for years now. And fresh off the success of “The Beekeeper,” Statham continues to add to his schedule of future films.
According to Deadline, Jason Statham is set to star in an untitled action film from acclaimed director Baltasar Kormákur. The film is said to be about a man named Mason (Statham) who lives a quiet life in the country. But things start to heat up for him, with his past coming back to haunt him, after he rescues a young woman from a storm.
Statham is no stranger to action films, as is shown in his multiple appearances in “Fast & Furious” universe, as well as recent films like “Wrath of Man,” “Operation Fortune,” and the “Meg” franchise. Statham also has a busy schedule ahead of him. He’s reportedly filming a new project with ‘Beekeeper’ director David Ayer, as well as another film, “Mutiny,” that he will begin production on in the fall. Filming on the new Kormákur project is expected to begin in November.
Kormákur is probably best known for his film “Everest,” but he’s also directed features such as “Beast,” “Adrift,” and “The Oath.” His newest film is “Touch,” which is expected to arrive this year.
It’s unclear when we might see his new film with Statham, but if filming begins in November, you have to assume a late-2025 release is a possibility.
