Dwayne Johnson/ The Rock has starred in some of the biggest movies ever made in Hollywood and is a bankable name that can draw audiences in. The actor has successfully juggled his career in professional wrestling and as an actor, earning immense respect from his peers in both industries. Johnson has amassed a huge network from his success throughout his life.
In addition to wrestling and acting, The Rock is also a savvy businessman and invests in many avenues including the professional minor league football league UFL. Earlier this year, the actor made a lucrative deal with the army to help enlist new recruits through social media ads and military branding in UFL player’s uniforms. However, the deal failed and it has actually caused the opposite effect.
The Rock’s Deal With The Army Failed Spectacularly Resulting In No Recruits
Dwayne Johnson has been known to be a people-pleaser and loves to be in business with people he trusts. Be it in the WWE or Hollywood, he has successfully established his empire, which has tasted massive success. Even in his business prospects like Teremana, Seven Bucks Productions, and his football league UFL, he knows how to raise the game for these brands to reach their biggest potential.
Earlier this year, The Rock made an $11 million deal with the Army to help enlist new recruits by posting 5 military ads on his Instagram, with each post valued at $1 million. Additionally, the actor was also to promote the military through ads in between his UFL games and also through player’s uniforms. This was done to enhance recruitment efforts and boost army enlistment this year.
However, as reported by Military.com, the deal backfired and 38 recruits ended up delisting. The whole deal ended up hindering the army’s recruitment plans overall. The documents obtained by Military.com show that the Army wanted to recoup its money back from Johnson. Fans are criticizing the whole scenario and are pointing out that it would have never worked. Here are some of the reactions on X,
UFL is a little-known football league and not many attended its games, leading to concerns over the deal. The Rock also reportedly did not hold up his end of the bargain as he posted only two ads on his Instagram instead of the planned five posts. Despite the deal failing to bring up any recruits, The Rock remains a good partner (via The Daily Beast) to the Army.
Dwayne Johnson’s Red One Has The Same Tone As Guardians of The Galaxy
Dwayne Johnson is starring in the upcoming Christmas-themed action adventure film Red One. The film chronicles the head of the North Pole security teaming up with a bounty hunter to rescue Santa Claus after he is captured. In an interview with Collider, the President of Production for Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, Hiram Garcia talked about the influences for the film.
Garcia revealed that Red One is a big Christmas movie that matches the aura and tenor of Johnson. He further stated that the film’s tone is very similar to Hobbs and Shaw and Guardians of the Galaxy. Garcia teased that the film has a lot of mythological elements along with being a globe-trotting adventure. The producer said,
What I can tell you is that it is a very big Christmas movie. I think, in tone. We had been looking for something that matched, the tone and tenor of DJ and what DJ brings to the table, so were able to come up with a really fun Christmas idea, but in tone, it’s much more of a Hobbs & Shaw, more of Guardians of the Galaxy in tone and vibe because you’re dealing with crazy mythological elements, turning a lot of tropes we know about the holidays on their head, but also really big action and globe-trotting.
Johnson stars alongside Chris Evans, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J. K. Simmons, Nick Kroll, and Kristofer Hivju in Red One. The fun and fantastical trailer of the film was recently released which intrigued fans. Red One will hit theatres on November 15, 2024.
