December was the month for Kobe Bryant, with the re-release of his well-known ‘Mamba’ sneaker line into the market with Nike. Looks like this re-release idea will soon turn into a trend, as Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson will look to make his mark in January. Iverson’s collaboration with Reebok during the late 90s and early 2000s had a big impact on young ballers back then. Well, the 2001 MVP is going to create that magic once again. But this time, by taking a few pointers from his idol Michael Jordan.
Although Jordan and Nike have given current NBA youngsters a lot of shoe deals, most of their money comes from the Chicago Bulls legend’s retro shoes. That is the same plan that Reebok is planning to stick to. The multi-billion sports company announced that they will be releasing Iverson’s ‘Answer 3’ on January 19 once again. However this time, the colorway would be the original white/black. This will be a sure-shot show stealer in the market for one iconic reason.
Remember the game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals? Iverson displayed a terrific performance against the Lakers’ deadly duo of Bryant and Shaq, to secure 48 points and 6 assists. Let’s not forget that he wore the ‘Answer 3’ for this game. These shoes were last released in 1999. Considering all of this, the scope for business is high for Reebok.
Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson are on a mission to revolutionize Reebok
Shaq and AI are the two big superstars that Rebook got to sign. After that, they have not managed to make an impact with their shoe deals. Well, you need not always bring in new shoes. You can also make the fans reminisce about some iconic designs. As the President of basketball, Shaquille O’Neal plans to do so. He shared in an interview, “I’m like ‘Jordan don’t do new stuff.’ Jordan still sells old stuff”. Along with AI as the Vice President, it looks like Reebok might regain its position back in the market. Anyhow, there is a long way to go.
Previously in November, the company released another design of the ‘Answer 3s’, with a white/red colorway. It hit the market on November 10 and was sold for $140. This is something Michael Jordan has been doing with Nike for decades now. The re-release trend is a powerful one indeed!
