Victor Wembanyama is officially a member of the San Antonio Spurs. Drafted first-overall on Thursday night, Wembanyama’s NBA career began. Having been the center of attention for a while now, Wembanyama is used to the media coverage, and did a great job answering questions following his big night.
One of the questions Wembanyama was recently asked was about his all-time starting five that could save the planet, and he went with Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Adding Curry as his point guard for this lineup was high praise from Wembanyama, selecting him over Magic Johnson and some of the other great point guards in league history. It seems to be the consensus at this point that Curry is at worst the second-greatest point guard of all-time, with many believing he has already secured his spot as the greatest to ever play that position.
Equally impressive to his talent on the court has been Wembanyama’s humble attitude throughout this entire process. Asked why he did not include himself in this starting lineup, the Spurs star said he has not proven anything yet.
The Spurs are understandably thrilled with the opportunity to select and build around Wembanyama, who projects to be a talent unlike anything the NBA has seen before. The expectations are through the roof, but Wembanyama is ready for them.
