It seemed like former Grizzlies fan favorite Rudy Gay may have found a new home with the Golden State Warriors, but it looks like that wasn’t the case at all.
It was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski that the Golden State Warriors are waiving both Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder so that they can start their season with 13 players on their roster.
In two preseason games with the Golden State Warriors, Rudy Gay averaged 2.0 points in 7.5 minutes a game. Other than two games against the Los Angeles Lakers, Rudy Gay did not play in any other preseason games for the Golden State Warriors.
This will be season 20 for Rudy Gay if he can find a new home in the NBA after being waived by the Warriors. He famously spent the first seven years of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies before joining the Toronto Raptors. In that time, he averaged 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals on 45/34/77 shooting. While Gay never quite became an All-Star with the Grizzlies, many around the league always felt he should have been one throughout that tenure.
Hopefully, Rudy Gay can find a new home after being waived by the Golden State Warriors. Ending his NBA career on season 19 when season 20 was on the way just doesn’t feel right for someone with such an enduring career.
