Golden State Warriors free agent Ty Jerome is joining the Cleveland Cavaliers
The Golden State Warriors extended a qualifying offer to Ty Jerome, making him an unrestricted free agent; however, it was reported by Anthony Slater of The Athletic that the Cleveland Cavaliers structured a deal above Golden State’s range, which Jerome has agreed to.
Jerome played some rotation minutes for the Warriors at times last season, which led to the team extending him a qualifying offer. That said, this is the reality of restricted free agency that teams have to deal with. While the official number that Jerome agreed to is not yet public, it was reported by Slater that the deal is outside of Golden State’s range.
While this is not a massive loss for the Warriors, Jerome was a solid depth piece in their backcourt last season, and clearly impressed the Cavaliers with his play when given an opportunity. He should have the chance to play more in Cleveland than he did in Golden State, which could have also contributed to his decision to leave, along with the extra money.
The Warriors have accomplished their top goal already this summer, which was the re-signing of Draymond Green. After locking up Green for the next four seasons, the fourth of which has a player option, Golden State will move forward with the free agency market. Losing Jerome is not something they wanted to happen, but the Warriors should be able to find a depth piece in his place.
