Steph Curry had an emotional reaction after Draymond Green was ejected within the first four minutes of the Golden State Warriors matchup with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
On Thursday, head coach Steve Kerr explained why Curry had such an emotional response to the mistake, per 95.7 The Game.
“Every game being so important. And us fighting for everything and for Draymond to get kicked out three minutes in. It was really unforgivable,” Kerr said. “And I think Steph may have been a little upset with himself for not pulling Draymond out of there but I think mostly it was just, come on, man.”
The Warriors managed to get the win even with Green ejected, but it was still a frustrating moment for Curry, who puts the Warriors on his back seemingly every night. The star point guard is averaging 26.5 points per game this year and has been just about the only bright spot in an otherwise dull year for Golden State.
The Warriors are currently fighting for a playoff spot, sitting in 10th place in the West at 38-34 just one game ahead of the 11th-place Houston Rockets. In a stretch where every game matters, Green’s ejection on Wednesday was something Golden State couldn’t afford.
This season, Green has been ejected four times and suspended two separate times, including an indefinite suspension that ended up lasting 12 games. When Green is off the floor, the Warriors don’t miss much on offense, but his defensive abilities are a huge loss to Golden State.
If the Warriors want to make a late push to ensure a playoff berth, they will need Green to stay out of trouble and remain on the court.
