Ever since Chris Paul became a member of the Golden State Warriors, everyone has asked one major question. Will Chris Paul start or come off the bench? Warriors owner Joe Lacob addressed the question himself in a recent interview.
Lacob spoke with Madeline Kenney of the Bay Area New Group, where he gave a candid answer about Paul’s role with the team.
“That’s up to the coaches,” Lacob said to Madeline Kenney. “I’m sure they’re talking about it, but who knows? He might start, he might not…The point is to get a lot of talent out there and to see [what happens]. Who starts doesn’t really matter anyway, it’s who finishes the game.”
It’s interesting to hear that Joe Lacob wouldn’t entirely commit to whether or not Paul was starting. That more than likely means the Golden State Warriors will experiment with having Chris Paul not start games, but then finish them – similar to how a sixth man would do. NBA fans have never seen Chris Paul come off the bench before, and it’ll be an entirely new experience. With the new experiences and change comes new types of conflict, and if the Warriors struggle with Paul coming off the bench, there will likely be a new conflict there as well.
Despite Lacob’s non-committal answer, Warriors fans should definitely expect Chris Paul to share the floor with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson at times. This team will for sure experiment with every possible combination on the floor with Chris Paul.
