Starring Jason Statham, The Meg 2: The Trench is the follow-up to the science fiction action movie of the same name that came out in 2018.
The plot, which is based on Steve Alten’s 1999 novel The Trench, centers on a research team that goes deep underwater to complete a mission. But when a mining operation puts their goal in danger, things take a sharp turn, and they now have to battle enormous Megs and the ruthless environmental looters just to survive.
It stars Jason Statham, Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels and Cliff Curtis.

Meg 2 director Ben Wheatley Talks About The Possibility Of Meg 3
Speaking about the franchise with TotalFilm magazine, Wheatley—who replaced Jon Turteltaub as director of the first movie—admitted he intended to produce a third picture.
“You don’t want to talk about it until Meg 2 is out,” he says, “But I hope so. There’s a lot more to explore in that world. It’s very rich. The international-ness of it is very interesting.”
Meg 2 Filming, Box Office And Crew
Following the first film’s box office success, plans for a sequel were revealed in October 2018, with early development underway at the time. Jon Turteltaub was replaced as director by Wheatley, and Erich Hoeber, Jon Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris wrote the screenplay. Principal photography took place at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, near Watford, Hertfordshire, England, and in a number of locales in Asia from February 2022 to May of that same year. Meg 2: Warner Bros. Pictures released The Trench in the United States on August 4, 2023, following its world premiere on June 9, 2023, at the Shanghai International Film Festival. The movie made $395 million worldwide and garnered mixed reviews.
