Steph Curry isn’t just good at basketball. He’s also extremely good at golf. A better-than-scratch golfer and the latest Golf Digest cover star, whose game we can each learn a little from.
As part of our cover launch, we’re breaking down his full swing technique, his putting stroke, and now, we are taking a quick look at his short game.
So why not start with what was perhaps Steph’s best-ever shot in competition? His holed, 97-yard three-quarter wedge shot at the American Century Championship last year…
Stick the finish
Did you take a good look at Steph Curry’s finish on this three-quarter wedge shot? Take another look.
His arms and chest are extended straight towards the target, with an abbreviated finish.
This, incidentally, is the same piece of advice Butch Harmon gave to Rory. Shorten your follow-through. There are a few benefits of this:
Keeping your arms straight, as Golf Digest Top 50 Nick Clearwater says, can help you make crisper contact by preventing your wrists from flipping and scooping.
Extending your chest towards the target helps counteract the common flaw of keeping your head down too long, which can prevent your body from turning.
Keeping your follow-through short will allow you to keep this shorter, finesse-first shot aggressive, which will allow you more spin.
All of which is to say, stick the finish. You’ll hit crisper half wedge shots because of it.
