Two-time Academy Award-winning feature Moana will return to the big screen for a second installment now. Although Walt Disney Animation Studios announced the film’s production in February of this year, fans’ expectations are growing after Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson posted the first look of the film.
Johnson dubbed the story’s antagonist, ‘Maui’, in the film released in 2016. And in this second film, he will do so as well. But while he expected all praise for the film and great anticipation among fans, things didn’t turn out exactly as he wished. Especially after his film’s date clashed with popstar Arianna Grande starrer, ‘Wicked’. The clash led to a comment that turned Moana 2 into a laughter riot on social media.
Dwayne Johnson stoked excitement by sharing a new poster for Moana 2 and announcing the release of the first trailer. On his social media, The Rock posted an image of the new poster for Moana 2. Moreover, news surfaced that the trailer would premiere tomorrow. In the poster, Moana is seen in the background, while a hook and paddle form number 2 in the foreground.
However, one particular comment might’ve surely irked the People’s Champion. It killed the entire momentum of praise and instead turned the movie into a hilarious topic. The user pointed out that Moana’s release date clashes with Ariana Grande’s Wicked and cracked a quip.
Dwayne Johnson’s Moana 2 finds itself as part of a punchline
So when Barbie and Oppenheimer clashed, it was called Barbenheimer; Moana and Wicked should be called Moaned. “And Moana 2 is releasing on the same day as Wicked. Instead of Barbenheimer, it will be Moaned. Spread the word; more people need to be talking about it.”
‘Wicked’ is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel titled ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’. The movie is going to be the second musical adaptation of the book.
The first one, released in 2003, was an absolute phenomenon on stage. Being a refreshing and unique take on an established concept. Instead of focusing on the Kansas girl entering the magical world of Oz, this new story explores the origins of the Wicked Witch of the West. Talking about how she became the iconic villain. And how she connects with the rest of the characters we all know.
Moana 2 is an animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the second installment in the Moana franchise and the sequel to the 2016 film. The film is directed by David G. Derrick Jr., who makes his feature directorial debut, and produced by Osnat Shurer. Both Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively.
