If you’ve heard the buzz about it but haven’t yet checked out The Beekeeper starring Jason Statham, now’s your chance as the movie has joined the hive over at Prime Video. After arriving in cinemas earlier this year, the movie stung many fans with delight as the action star attached to such high-octane classics as The Meg franchise and Wrath of Man took on his newest role in a vengeance-centered thriller. Joined by a call sheet lined with familiar faces, Statham absolutely kicks butt in the movie that all Prime Video subscribers should check out.
From director David Ayer (Suicide Squad), The Beekeeper sees Jason Statham as Adam Clay, a former operative from a secret service-type organization known as the Beekeepers, living a quiet life far away from the undercover missions of his past.
He now lives in an area surrounded by nature where he tends to his colonies of bees, his only friend in the world being his kind landlady, Eloise Parker (Phylicia Rashad).
Tragedy strikes when, after passing her banking information to a scam group online, Eloise believes she’s lost everything and commits suicide. Desperate to carry out revenge for the only person who’s ever cared for him, Adam goes back to his old ways and brings out the Beekeeper who has just been hiding underneath.
No stranger to the genre, Jason Statham absolutely brings the heat as the grieving friend out for vengeance.
Filling out the cast for The Beekeeper alongside Jason Statham and Phylicia Rashad is a host of familiar faces including Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games franchise), Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy), and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard with a Vengeance).
Just what audiences needed at the start of the new year, folks headed to theaters with a hive mind to see The Beekeeper, which went on to earn an impressive $152.7 million at the global box office.
For the most part, viewers and critics agreed that the title was another smash-hit action-packed success for Statham and Ayer.
Statham Got Into Bees
In a precious piece of behind-the-scenes movie trivia, it’s fun for anyone (whether you’re going to watch The Beekeeper or not) to know that Jason Statham actually embraced his character’s lifestyle to get into the role.
And no, we don’t mean that he joined a top-secret operative, although we could absolutely see that happening as well. Instead, the actor learned a bit about beekeeping, getting his hands sticky with honey, and learning from professionals in the industry.
Other Statham Projects
The Beekeeper came hot on the heels of an incredibly busy 2023 for Jason Statham who last year appeared in four films: Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Fast X, Meg 2: The Trench, and Expend4bles. Next on his agenda, the action man will reteam with The Beekeeper’s director, David Ayer, for the action thriller, Levon’s Trade.
The movie, which is due out in early January and was adapted for the screen by Sylvester Stallone, will also feature performances from David Harbour (Stranger Things), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), and Michael Peña (Ant-Man).
Catch The Beekeeper now on Prime Video and watch Jason Statham in all his glory.
